drill bit sockets

so i've done some googling but can't find any information. are there any sockets out there designed to hold drill bits? like for example a 1/2" drive socket that i could put on an impact. if not, is that because it's a bad idea? or just because nobody has done it? just a random thought i had earlier that i decided to see about. thanks!

That's going to be a no, might find some chinese 1/2 dr drill chuck on wish or something.

They make drill bits with the same shank that a 1/4 impact driver uses. I have some short ones that I use on a cordless ratchet instead of an angle drill.

I also have a small drill chuck that will go on a 1/4 impact driver. It's only a 1/4 chuck so it would need reduced shank bits to go any bigger.
I only used it to drill small stuff in the field when I was trying to minimize the amount of tools carried.

Similar idea, there are drill bits with hex ends that fit a hex impact driver. They do tend to explode if the bit jams...

They are called hex drive drill bits. You can buy them at Ho De and the like. Use them in a drill or a 1/4” hex impact.

Broadly speaking you don't want to use a drill bit in an impact driver/wrench. As long as the impact wrench is free spinning it will work fine, just like a drill (which is why it's often done with small pilot drill bits in wood), but if the bit grabs hard enough to cause the impact wrench to start impacting you'll break the bit and cause yourself a real headache.

There are drill chucks that can be mounted on square drives for impact use.
These ones made by LFA/Reichel have been made for years, but seem to be a weird niche product.

Reichel Impact Chuck

LFA, the French parent company, also used to make a different style chuck, that I believe was also square drive, but I can’t seem to find it currently.
The other product was called the LFA “Endurer”.
I haven’t used either, so can’t give more info.
Other than those, Makita and Dewalt both sell 1/4 quick change drive impact chucks for their 1/4 impact drivers.
There are also square drive adapters that would allow you to mount a drill chuck.

Those are just like the ones HF sells, or used to sell. The bit is crimped into the adapter shank. Sometimes they wobble and sometimes they spin in the adapter shank. They are not good.

thanks everybody for the replies! it's interesting to see what's out there, even though i'll likely never buy any of these.

well in all honesty i was considering trying to see if i could wiggle my way out of buying a drill and use my 3/8 micro impact in a pinch, but it seems like a poor idea lol
