So I have a new to me craftsman 13" 5 speed drill press and I'm looking for the appropriate drill chuck key.

I've been using a key off of a old makita drill that sort of works, I also have a cheapo 4 way that the gear teeth have been seriously beaten up.

So I'm looking online and they list keys by pilot hole and another 'size'. Well, my pilot hole seems to be 1/4 inch, but where and how do I measure the other "size"? Basically I see keys listed as: 1/4 pilot 3/8. Or 1/4 pilot 1/2. Etc... I've measured the keys I have all over the place and don't see where they came up with 3/8 or 1/2. Help?

Expensive because all we have to go on is a model number of the drill press. The 2nd one you buy will be cheaper because you'll be able to match yours up with one out in town.

actually, that might not be right.

how about pulling the chuck off and taking it with you and test fit in store?
