Drill Differences

What, technically speaking, makes one cordless drill better than another? What pieces inside, or manufacturing processes, or design characteristics make one drill feel and perform better than another?

I have been using an older Milwaukee 18v Ni-Cad and a newer Porter Cable 18v Ni-Cad drill to build a large work bench. The Porter Cable I like okay. But, the Milwaukee seems to just have a better "feel" when driving the screw, especially once the screw head has touched the wood and needs to be countersunk. The Milwaukee is larger and not necessarily better feeling in the hand, but it feels like it functions more smoothly or something.

What's going on?

The internal parts of your milwaukee are probably metal or magnesium, which gives it that better balance and feel. The PC probably has more plastic components.
