I got mine today, too. It's sitting on my desk, at the moment, and I won't get a chance to tune up some bits until later in the weekend. I'm interested in giving it a go. My last job had an older, smaller unit (which worked well) so it'll be a nice to compare the two.

You can sharpen a drill bit on a bench grinder in less time than it takes to mess with that drill doctor. If you don't know how to do it go to youtube and then practice until you get it right.

There's a guy on there name of tubalcain who can show you how to do it in a few minutes.

He has strong opinions about sharpening fixtures. :D
This is part of a series on drill bits that you may find interesting. Good practical info here.

I haven't received my order yet, snow and ice delays.
I'm hoping it will pay off on smaller high quality drills.
Big drills like ole tubalcain was sharpening are easy to sharpen. My eyes just aren't good enough for the small ones these days.

I also agree about the smaller drills. I can't see them too great anymore.

I can see small bits just fine (I think). I just can't get them perfect (or even half way decent) on the bench grinder.

Hey folks, this is Drill Doctor. We hope you have enjoyed the 50% off coupon code discussions over the last day or two. Those of you who purchased, congratulations, we hope you have a blast using your new Drill Doctor to sharpen all your dull used bits. This coupon code was available in error and it has now expired. So, I assume Drill Doctor manuafactured by the same people that manufacture Darex Drill & End mill sharpeners. Interesting.

Whe I started machining ( many moons ago ) the only way we got raises to to show stuff we learner. Drill sharpening was one if them. It wasn't hard back when I could see well, but 35 years later its a bit tough to see.

Received my Drill Doctor yesterday. I've never used one before. Just sharpened 16 drill bits from 7/64" - 3/8", Craftsman HSS black oxide, all very dull.

All are now sharp like new. Super-easy to use and man what a difference! Really happy I made the buy.

I've had my drill doctor for about a year. It does a great job regrinding the tips. I was hesitant in buying one because of all the machinists reviews who could not seem to get it to work right. After all if they couldn’t what chance did I have. Well I watched a couple of YouTube videos and my first regrind took about 4 minutes with the setup. After that it takes about a minute to touchup a tip.
I went through all my bits in an afternoon. It’s real simple to touch them up to like new. Look at the image below. I can't imagine doing that by hand or as accurate. Oh the picture on the right, the bit was completely rounded over before sharpening.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your feedback. Have you had to change out your sharpening wheel yet? How many bits do you think you've sharpened on it to date?

I've heard that the wheels last quite a while...

I've had the 750 for a few years and have sharpened hundreds of old drill bits with it. Still sharpens fine. I can sharpen bits with a bench grinder also, I just like sitting there in a comfortable chair when I have a pile of bits to sharpen.

Mine came last night. I sharpened 8 bits or so and it worked really well I even used the split point part. Cant wait to see how they work on metal with the split point.

Got mine today. Tried it out and it seems to work good. Only thing is with screw machine length drills its a little harder to index them in the collet. But overall I'm happy.
