Drill & driver 20v best value?

I'm looking for a drill and impact driver combo and have been watching the Black Friday deals to find the best value. Is this the best value?

That way, you get both and 4 batteries for $40 extra instead of 2 with the BF special. There is also a dewalt 2 piece combo on BF, but again you get two batteries.

Is there anything better that I'm missing? Anyone know of any bad things with the porter cable?

Side note, lowes has the porter cable sets for 99 each and I have the 10% mover coupon, so I may do that for 180 total pre tax.

It depends on what you want to use it for.
and in terms of power dont look at the battery volts look at the torque specs, that drill driver said 1450 in/lb. Which is about 110 ft/lbs. this would good for home use, but not a commercial enviorment.

I bought the Craftsman bolt on last night which has slightly high torque if I recall, 20 volt battery and quick boost charger. for 60$

But the lowes deal for 150$ is pretty damn good to.

What do you want to use these for???

I beleive the drill driver will be fine. But if you try to use the impact driver as a impact wrench then you will be sadly dissapointed.
The drill driver might be able to swap a set of tires if properly torqued to 100 ft/lbs, but if you try to use it for frozen bolts such as axle nuts ect I dont think it will cut it.

idk where you get 4 batteries from it only comes with 1 for each drill. Its just a waste of money on amazon. Id go with the lowes deal. I have their drill/driver kit non lithium. Works good drill is ok I guess I use the impact driver more tho.

Im not super impressed with my Dewalt 20v set (drill + impact + 2 batteries) that I got about 6 months ago (dead battery, quality fit/finish not great). Just not the quality I was hoping for, totally adequate for home owner use though.

I would seriously look at Hitachi. They have been rated "Best Buy" from several reviewers. This is a great site to check between now and BF.

Just throwing my 2 cents in. I have been doing carpentry work for sometime now and most of all the contractors and workers in my area are using Makita brand Impact drills. People need to remember the size or Mah (Milliamps per Hour) on the batteries when doing comparisons. 1.5mah is the smaller batteries that most companies seem to be going with because of light weight and cost savings. On the job, the 3.0 is the ticket. For DIY at home, my white set of 18V makitas with the 1.5 batteries have been awesome. 3 years and still strong. As mentioned earlier these types of impacts are not designed for wheel lugs, rusted bolts, etc. but 1400+ lbs of torque will get most anything done at home. If your working on cars, I would guess that a compressor and an impact gun are already in your garage and your not planning on using it for this. Im looking at the Porter Cable set for my son, that price is pretty darn good. I have never used the cordless stuff from Porter cable but for that price I think Its worth giving it a shot. Keep on the lookout, there should be more sales coming up this week. Happy Thanksgiving all.

I have a compressor and impact gun, so won't be using it for anything like that. Just driving screws and such.

I have PC NiCad 2 piece drill/driver combo with 2 batteries and charger. I bought it off eBay through CPO outlets, they sell all the major brands of tools. I got the set for I believe either 109 or 119 shipped. Yea, they are a bit heavy not having the slim batteries but they do a great job. I bought the set because I'm no master mechanic and didn't need the latest and greatest. Recently I partially ran over the Impact driver, it kinda messed up the outside case a bit but still works flawlessly.

The drill works good, the only gripe I have with it is that the chuck can loosen if your on and off the trigger. On the newer version I believe the chuck is metal. Mine is plastic on the outside. Im going to be getting the newer PC Lithium kit soon and selling mine to one of the newbie techs that work in my shop.

I believe it was worth every penny.

1400 in-lbs I assume you mean.

The 1.5ah batteries are definitely for general driving use. I grab them whenever I am working on a "normal" drilling/etc. project, and do not need the longest life. Being lighter, they are much more friendly on your hands/arms/etc., you just swap them a bit more.

3.0/4.0 batteries are only necessary for the power hungry tools like the saws, or if you need absolute longevity.

Also if you are looking at the PC Lithium kit might want to look into the lowes 1 or 2 year plans. They are like 15-17 bucks but are worth it after im reading them. Even wear and tear is covered.

I struggled making it clear. The initial links I posted are the individual tools and each come with 2 batteries and a charger. So by going that route, I get two tools, 4 batteries, and 2 chargers for $191. As opposed to going the BF $149 route which nets 2 tools, 2 batteries, 1 charger. So basically for $42 more, I get two extra batteries and another charger.

Im not well versed in Porter Cable line but love Dewalt. I would suggest a combo kit that has an impact like you wanted and a hammerdrill not just a driver. Having the hammer drill combined in your regular driver eleviates the need for another tool and worth the upgrade in price.

I recently purchased the PC drill/impact driver from Lowes for 149. I paid 187 with taxes and extra warranty. Today I battled it out against the snap on brand 18v drill against my 20v max.

Both had the same drill bit and be started drilling at the same time. We each came out at the same time. The drill didn't slow down at all. It just kept pushing its way through.

Also two of the guys at my work looked at my impact driver and noticed how much kick it had. They were really surprised with the power and all the "new" features.

Im glad I made this purchase.

I have a few Porter Cable products. Im happy with all of them.
