Drill Index info request

Picked up this little drill index at a local auction today and was wondering is anyone can tell me anything about it?
Looks like cast metal of some kind with brass band's around the out side. These bands are inscribed with the drill size fractions, but need to be cleaned up to see. Any thoughts?

Just out of curiosity what name is on that stepped grinding wheel? We have one laying around that i believe is from old brake service stuff.

The stepped grinder wheel is a Black & Decker Aluminum Oxide disk. I don't know any more about, other than it came in the cabinet with the other stuff. Also had a 8"x 1/2" in there too. Didn't see any machine's at the auction that they would have fit, so don't know what they are about. If anyone would like either, there more than welcome to have them for postage. Just pm me.
Any thoughts on the drill index?

Mothers Aluminum polish on the brass (or copper or even aluminum... I've even use it to remove stains on my hunting knife that NOTHING else would take out...)

Will try the Mothers aluminum polish as I have it on hand, and if that doesn't work I will try the Brasso.
Will be looking for a new set of drill bits to put in this baby, can anyone tell me if they make sets with the shank turned down to fit a 1/4" hand drill like these are? Use to get them turned at the shop at work, but now I don't work.....
Bad_Idea: don't' think I will be getting rid of the grinder. I have been looking for this model for a couple years. I was lucky finding this 1956 Delta in near new condition with original barely used stones. Came with the complete plane sharpening jig which is pretty rare. Was part of personal collection of woodworking tools of older feller who had taken real good care of all his toys.
Now if anyone has the pedestal for it the search will be over.

Love that Delta, we have a similar vintage Delta at my summer job still runs silky smooth (when people dress the wheels!). Looks like some nice stuff you got including some NOS (Simonds?) files.

Yea, the grinder was sitting on a small metal table, and in the drawer were the 2 NOS files. Also attached to the table was the little Columbian vise. Didn't need another, but the price was right. Free with the grinder!
Couple of sharping stones, and the 2 grinder wheels. Also had a small 4" piece of RR rail in the bottom of cabinet, which is good for pounding on. All in all, I was quite satisfied for my 4 hr standing in the cold.

Drills with 1/4" shanks are readily available, probably harder to get in the higher quality drills. you can also get them in hex shank for easy use in battery drills, but not in every size even in fractional sizes AFAIK
