I have that exact HF drill. I bought it after I had my Craftsman stolen out of my car.

It actually feels as well made as the Craftsman $90 cordless I used to have. It hasn't let me down on the 4 or 5 projects I've used it on. For 15 bucks, it's a good value even for use as a spare/backup.

My dad has one about 18 months old. So far it's has been ok in light use.

guy at work told me to avoid it not because the drill is bad, but the batteries are weak and never really feel 'fully charged' if you know what i mean. I never used it personally, but I trust his judgement about it.

It is good for the price. You can't expect to get the quality of a Snap-On or Milwaukee for $15. The battery feels fine in mine -- holds a charge for light to medium projects. At $15, even if the OP hates the drill, he can always pick up another brand and relegate this one to his truck tool box or light duty or whatever.

People have good luck with the cheap HF angle grinders so the cordless drill may be another "diamond in the rough"

Maybe joe homeowner only uses it once a year. Doesn't make much sense investing a lot in a drill you're rarely going to use and replace the expensive batteries in 5 years cause they're dead.

Nicad, not worth the time of day. Especially when you compare them to Li Ion. Once you work with a good Li Ion drill you will never want a NiCad one.

HF is cheap, but if that is the price you are looking for. It will drill. How well is base on your expectation. Now sure how good it is with a long bit. Weather the bit will walk or drill straight.

I think that drill *****. Go with a ridgid, if you register it you get a LIFETIME warranty on the tool and even the LI-ION batteries and if you go for one of their less pricy models its a good investment, even for the weekend warrior type who isn't a pro. NI-CAD *****...
