Drill press cross slide

I am considering buying a cross slide vise for my bench top drill press. Anybody have any recommendations, suggestions or reviews of any of them I would prefer to keep it under $100. I just need it for home use.

I have a different model Grizzly vise. Similar low quality China. I'm not impressed with the thing. Chunks of the casting fall off when the jaws are stressed. Paint comes off with normal wiping with a rag. Mine is the 90 deg tilt style. When tilting it from horizontal to vertical, part of the tilting way broke off. Seems like a heavy piece of not very well cast metal.

Don't buy Chicom! There may be good ones, but all I've seen are junk. I was given one and passed it on quickly. Soft metal, handles which broke when used normally; really nasty pieces of work.

Harbor Freight also has them. I assume they are not surper I quality, but also not super expensive either.

Easier to get centred, opening holes and drilling small stuff.

Funny but just this week I looked at an old drill press vise (not sliding) and for the life of me , I could not figure out if was made in the usa or somewhere else. The castings looked very rough but it had a lot of age to it. If it was chinese then they are getting very good at copying are products.

I've been eyeing the MIT cross slide for my DP, just haven't pulled the trigger as its a bit more than I'd like to pay. I do think this is one of those get what you pay for things.

I'd tend to agree. for single holes I use my fixed vise bolted to the rotary table, and rotate the table on its center and the post to get it set.

For non critical holes, or for a row of holes, I use a fixture I made. Documented here on Instructables:

The Shop Fox appears to be similar to the Wilton and Palmgren but at a cheaper price, I assume due to lower overhead.

I'm interested in a cross slide for my DP as well. Having to clamp and unclamp is a real treat with one hand.
