So, a few days ago I bought a drill press. The whole unit is in great condition except the motor. While trying to repair the motor, I really f'ed it up. So now I need a new motor, and the I will have a working drill press. My only problem is that there are no motors on my Craigslist, and shipping is really expensive for motors online. What would you guys suggest to do in this situation?

How did you "really F'ed up" your motor? Most things can be repaired.

Edit, I looked up your drill press post.

For that machine a 1/4-1/2hp will be plenty.

May want to post a WTB on craigslist. That can be a good source of entertainment.

Look for other appliances to take motors off of. You probably want a 1725RPM motor.

Is there a Grainger or type of surplus center in your area? However you will probably quickly exceed the value of the press if you put a new motor on it.

The back piece of the motor was cracked (cast iron) I welded it, and it came out good, but now the shaft will not spin true. I must have warped the piece while welding it.:(

I have some motors, not sure if you want to travel this far, SE Mass.

Put a wanted ad on CL. There are tons of used motors out there.

Or pick up a motor at HF and use a coupon.

Yes, you probably warped it while welding.

Check Goodwill, Habitat, Salvation Army. They often have used motors.
