Drill press or mill?

Put me down in the "drill press first" camp.

I'd assume the OP got his holes drilled, as this thread is over 6.5 years old......

I have 2 Bridgeports. Drill press is relagated to holding a wire wheel for mold cask cleaning.

Like a true Garage Jounaler I need a DP for a car project I'm working on. I need to cut a perfectly straight 3/4" hole through 3/4" plate steel and can probably get by with a bench top drill press. HOWEVER my inner garage journaler says that I should buy a floor DP instead so I don't have to upgrade for a future project. Should I just double my budget and go for a mill while I'm at it?

To be perfectly clear I don't see needing a mill for any projects right now. But I'd also rather avoid having both if I can get by with just one better tool.

You might be able to keep your benchtop drill press, and buy an annular cutter to drill your hole. They need less tool pressure to make a perfect hole.

But I would recommend taking this opportunity to buy more expensive tools!
