I bought a benchtop drillpress off a buddy of mine for 30 bucks. Had to do some minor rewiring on it but nothing major. Well, the 2 vices he gave to me with it are cracked and old. Was wondering where i can pick up some new ones. Any online people? IM on this online kick cause im away from home and cant drive anywhere to pick stuff up. Thanks in advance, this website has opened my eyes to a lot of stuff. You guys are awesome...

MSC, Enco, HF, even sears catalog.... Unfortunatly all of the cheaper ones are made overseas.

If the table is big enough and it can support the weight, Id look at a crossslide vise. Only need one way sliding... It helps when postioning work. The table simply doesnt go low enough on the smaller bench top presses but I use a cross slide on this old "industrial" drill press. It looks like it was originally a floor mount somebody simply chopped down... They are heavy... Id saw a good 30lbs easy.

Timely question, srosa707. Hope you don't mind me jumping in here.

I have been thinking that I should buy a vice for my bench-top drill press, but I really don't have a clue as to what I should buy. I would imagine that vices can be fairly multi-purpose to highly specialized. I am thinking a multi-purpose vice would probably suit me. One project that I have been putting off is drilling inspection windows in a set of brake drums, so if I could find a vice suited to holding a brake drum at a 45 degree angle, that would be good.

Thanks,

Scott

Here is a $14.00 vise for your $30 drill press, online too!

I have that vice on my press. It's alright, can't really complain about it, but since I have the room, i'm going to put a cross slide vice on there. Makes alot of stuff easier if you have one.

x2 - I'm also to this stage. Working the table position and the inexpensive vise position gets old for precision work.
