I'm looking to purchase a 15" Craftsman floor model drill press, with a 5/8" chuck. I was wondering will a tapping head fit this drill press?

What's the spindle taper? Most tapping heads go in a morse taper, not on a Jacobs taper or in a chuck. Does it go slow enough to run a tapping head?

Some do fit in a chuck, but they generally make the whole setup so long its unweildy. I have a Buck that goes in a chuck, but it's not a very nice tapping head.

Yes, that drill likely has a jt33 (male) taper on the spindle. You can get tapping heads in almost any mount, including a 1/2 solid shank. Are you familiar with tapping head operation? They are great for certain things it lousy for others.
