Drill Repair

I'm pretty new to restoring/repairing tools, especially powertools. We have had this busted drill for quite some time and I want to repair it. I havent pulled it apart yet but im pretty sure it just needs a new powercord.

Does anyone have any information on this particular drill? As i said, I'm pretty new at this so any advice is appreciated. I'm not looking to do a 100% restoration, i mostly just want it to function safely.

Welcome to the forum.

You will need to provide make and model of the drill. Do you feel comfortable making electrical repairs? Electricity can be dangerous.

tap and pry gently so as not to break anything.
once you get the case open,snap a pic so you remember how it laid out.
there are probably a couple cardboard like insulators around the switch, the should go back in. clean inspect and lube, there sholdn't be any surprises in there. If the brushes are at the end of their travel, measure and hunt for some replacements.

its a Grants 1/4" Drill, Model NO 10546T6. I'll update this thread with the pics once I'm allowed to, but they are in my album now.

If the brushes are shot, you might get replacements at Philipps Brothers. They are located near the big blue water tower in Buffalo

Welcome! Here are your pictures. If you do not have a strain relief to add where the cord comes out, you can use a short length of reinforced plastic tubing. Make a collar out of 1/8" wire clamped on to the hose (inside the drill), to keep it from pulling out.

Welcome JangleJohn,

IT is not hard to replace a cord. Make sure that you attach the ground somewhere so you don't get a nasty surprise one day. Depending on the age you may have to create a ground for the cord.
