Drill rivet to remove Snap-on drawer slide?

I had a question in regard to a Snap-on mid 1980's vintage KR650 tool chest. The friction slides are easy enough to remove with a piece of shim stock. The bottom four drawers come off of the roller slides easy enough by removing a screw and carefully lifting. But how do you remove the drawer slides from the chest? It looks like they are riveted to the tool chest. If this is the case, you need to drill the rivets to remove the slides? They are covered with dirt and grease so I am looking removing them for cleaning. Or do folks just spray clean them in-place?

In regard to lubrication for the ball slides, what do folks like? I have heard good recommendations using wax lubricants in solvent for bike chains, such as White Lightning.

One think I noticed is the some detents at the back of the roller slides have deteriorated and come off. I do not see the detents listed on the KR650 parts list on the snap-on web site. They do show the drawer slide kits as part number 8-3388ALRS. Separately on the Snap-On site I do see Detent kits. Is Detent Kit, Narrow, Standard Stiffness (Item: 8-88ASNRK), black in color. Is the correct kit?

Thanks

If it was me, I would just hit them with brake cleaner to remove the dirt and grime, then use regular white lithium spray grease to lube them. No real reason to remove them.

I drilled out my one KR and replaced with small screw and serrated nut. My other 3 KRs use screws and nuts.

If they are Accuride slides, contact them. They will send all the stops and dog bones you need with just a picture of the slides or needed parts.

I don't like taking my drawers out to clean the slides every year so I don't use grease that will collect dirt and gum the works. I use paraffin wax but any dry lube would work.

I recall having to drill out a rivet in my KR655 when I replaced all of the drawer slides with new free ones from SO. The new ones did not require a rivet and also featured the quick release lever. I did add a tiny bit more grease to the ball bearings. The bottom drawer slide is attached with screws. SO just sent me two free slides for that drawer and now all drawers slide nice and easy. (In my opinion, the KR655 is the best single bank roll-away SO ever made.)

Thanks for all the relies. The slides were grungy enough that I drilled the rivet and the slides came out easily as everyone stated.

Previous posts listed Jorge at Accuride at the contact point for getting replacement slide stops. I emailed him this morning but no response yet. Hopefully he is still at Accuride. Otherwise I will give them a call later.

I have had really good success using paraffin wax on friction type drawer slides - great lubricity and minimal attraction of dirt & grime. So hopefully I get the same performance out of White Lightening.

That's the correct part number for the narrow soft detents yes. The wide version is 8-88SWRK. You might need the wide version on the taller drawers.

The rivets get drilled out. The were overkill at the time because the weight of the drawers on the bayonets keeps the slides in place just fine.

I bought and older Matco box several years ago. The slides all had a ton on filth built up in them. They were hard to pull and push in and out. I drilled out all of the rivets then soaked them in solvent. Once clean, I added a very light amount of Sil-Glyde. I used small pan head screws to reattach them to the box. They still slide like new after 4 or 5 years from my clean up. I did end up having to replace a couple of them which Matco did for free.

Those riveted slides ****. I have two KR 637s. The one from 1987 has the riveted slides, the one from 1990 doesn't.
