Drilling a Plastic Handle without splitting it

I need to drill a hole in about 10 handles. THese are different size brushes. the handles plastic and about the size of a drum stick +/- depending oin the size. I want to be able to hang them. Shold I drill a very small hole and get the next size bit up and so on until the hole is big enough or is there a better method?

normal sharp drill should walk through that in a single pass unless they are made of something exotic or are some kind of softgrip handle

Never hurts to predrill with a smaller bit, if nothing else it keeps the bit from walking. But plastic typically doesn't split when drilled....

Nothing Exotic, it is a glorified set of bowl brushes I use to clean the wheels of my car. Currently being stored in a bucket but in my ongoing garage re-organization I would like to hang them up off the floor and I got this idea form another site (Detailing site).

how about using a forstner bit rather than standard twist?

I would use a brad point wood bit on plastic handles.
It keeps the sides of the hole true and clean and cuts well.
Use a drill press and drill press vise so you can easily control feed speed.

Are they hard brittle plastic of the softer type with some give? If the latter make sure you have the handle secured so the bit does not grab... If the former take it slow for pressure/force and let the bit do the cutting.
