Drilling concrete with Festool T15 ?

Hi guys,

I understand my Festool T15 is definitely woodworking oriented. Also, the manual and the Festool site says the T15 can properly mostly drill wood but ALSO metal.

However, I wondered if I could drill concrete (I can probably TRY...). Should I stay away from this "dangerous" drilling activity (as far as the T15 is concerned) ?

Why do you say it is "wood oriented"? It's a cordless drill. I've drilled concrete many times with a cordless and a carbide drill bit.

I'd recommend using a cordless over a corded drill anyways because a cordless is better sealed than a lot of corded drills, and you won't have the dust getting into it.

I would say 8 x holes: 10 mm diameter. 80mm deep.

Festool is really over price. They are very good quality but very expensive.

You need a hammer drill for concrete. The cordless tools really are not designed to drill concrete. Old concrete if cured properly really can be harder then steel.

I would not want to take a chance and mess up a good tool. They are used mostly in industry for wood working and light duty metal shops.

You can rent a hammer drill to the job. It is better than craping out a good tool.
I would not use it.

For $500 if it can't drill 8 holes in some concrete then I guess you know that $490 was paid for the name and not the tool.

Not a hammer drill. I just used a cordless 18v DeWalt. At work, that is all the maintenance men used most of the time was a Cordless DeWalt unless they had a lot of concrete to drill through.

I have a corded B&D 1/2" hammer drill, but hardly ever use it.

That Festool T15 is a drill, not hammerdrill, which impacts in addition to drilling.

Are you in Paris, France? We have a Paris, Texas in the USA. Is there a tool rental place nearby? Rent/borrow a Bosch Bulldog hammerdrill and you can drill those in a few minutes.

In my travels I can tell you definately that other countries do not have things like we do in the USA. Hardware stores are not nearly as common and finding one that carries a hammer drill may be something they'll have to special order.

80mm is about 4 inches, a rotary drill ain't going do it... in fact you'll have have better luck with a star drill and a hammer!

To sum this up for everyone:

-Concrete drilling is basically very controlled chipping

-Metal/wood drilling is cutting the material

You need a hammer-drill to drill concrete effectively as it is a totally different type of drilling than wood/metal.

you can find a hammer drill pretty much anywhere in France, no need for any special order. we may even have better hammer drills available than you do too!
