Drilling holes in 2 post columns?

I'm planning on drilling a couple small holes in one of my columns on my Bendpak so I can install some rivnuts. Going to use the rivnuts to hold some cable clamps for my power wire coming from the ceiling. Anyone think this will be a problem?

You could drill more than a couple and it wouldnt care.

This could cause a problem! You do not want any screws or bolts protruding into the inside of the columns where the slide blocks would strike them. On my new XPR 10A, I cut small squares of 1" flat stock, drilled and tapped a 1/4"-20 hole in the center, and welded the blocks onto the outside of my columns for conduit straps and utility boxes for a receptacle on each column. Then used shortened screws for the clamps and boxes.

That's an idea as well. I've got the same hoist so looking at the inside of the columns there's a fair sized hydraulic line running up it plus the wire for the microswitch if you use it. I have no doubt that my bolt won't stick out any farther than that line running up the inside.

Rather than a rivnut, could you use an aluminum pop rivet. The aluminum should be soft enough that if the slide block were to ever hit it, the rivet would just shear off.

You might laugh at this but I use the magnets from inside computer hard disks. I attach the cable clamps to these and use them to run control and low voltage wires. they grip like crazy but if the wire gets snagged by something they will give or release. the added benefit is that you can reconfigure easily as needs change. For example they work great to hold trailer wiring off the ground when the trailer is not in use.

On most of these lifts the slide blocks are on the corners of the carrier, allowing items to protrude in the center sections. I have a number of holes where things are mounted (air pipe, conduit, outlets, hose storage, etc). Just make sure you are clear of the slides, and the hydro lines/power.

Just use stick-on wire tie bases. No drilling, no issues.

On my Rotary, there is limited clearance between the inside of the column and the slide. So I drilled and tapped the holes I wanted, then made screws that were exactly the right length so they didn't protrude excessively into the column interior. Works fine, I have both a couple of 'pan' holders (hold some stainless bowls that I drop lugnuts and similar stuff into when removing wheels) and on one side my air hose reel.

Make sure you have clearance and just use some self tapping screws.

I used sticky pads for zip ties to hold cables and also drilled and tapped screw holes to hold on the disconnect box.
