Drilling Morton Barn Supports

Hi all,

I'm prepping to wire the shop I'm building in my Morton barn. Can anyone comment on whether it is acceptable to drill holes for wiring and conduit through the poles of the barn? I'm rather hesitant to drill through the vertical support structures in the building. Just wondering what others have done for this. Probably a silly question, but I'm going to ask it anyway.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Brian

Rather than check here, you might want to contact the company directly to address issues such as the voiding of warranties, etc.

Here is how they did mine. They nailed 2 x 4's across the poles and we put the interior sheet metal and plywood on the 2 x 4's to finish out the building interior.

They place the electrical outlet boxes on top of the 2 x 4's and ran the romex in the 1 1/2 space created by the 2 x 4's.

Hope this helps.

Have you thought about running the conduit outside the walls? This will give you easy access to your electrical if you ever want to play with it or add in stuff to it later. Plus you could paint it the samecolor as your walls so it doesnt stand out.
