My wife has her hops yard (3/4 acre) on a drip system from a well. It works well, well. (Pun intended).

As said above what are the specs of the systems?
GPM of the drip system?
Size of the receiver tank?
Just what constitutes "cycle the pump too many times" in your opinion?
Can your drip system use enough flow to keep the pump running constantly?
When watering with a pump on a pressure switch I always try to get enough sprinklers going to make the pump run full time.

Yes, I irrigate from a well some, I set it to run constant, just below shut off pressure or at rated pressure of drip system.
