I remember seeing in the back of Car Craft and Hot Rod a few years ago a lift that you drive onto and then use your floor jack to raise it. It would only give you aboyt 24inches of height but thats about what i can use. Does anybody know what im talking about and where i can buy one.

For about the same price you can get a BendPak P6 if space and height is the issue.

Has anyone actually used one. I like the "mobility" of it an capablity of taking it down to get it out of the way

That was what I was looking at getting before getting the 2 post & am glad I got the 2 post instead. Case in point; changing the 02 sensor on the wife's car. Had car up on lift & couldn't get 02 sensor bolts out so unbolted the header pipe from exhaust manifold & cat converter. Took to vise & replaced sensor then tried to bolt back to exhaust manifold, no go. Lowered car & removed exhaust manifold, bolt hole was stripped & cracked, time for new manifold. Next day got new manifold put on then run it into the air & replaced header pipe with the new 02 sensor then lowered it & hooked up 02 sensor wire. Run it back into the air, started it with remote & checked for leaks. This scenario on either jack stands or a kwiklift would not have played out nearly so well. If you can possibly swing it & have a place for it I would recommend something that can be raised & lowered like a 2 post, 4 post, or scissor lift for occasions like this when Murphy & his extended family decides to come calling.

I have a Kwik-lift and wish I had bought it years ago. I did buy a second bridge so I can pull all four wheels at once. My car is parked on it and I leave it "down" so all I have to do is pull the wheels chocks out and roll it off. It's a bright yellow, so I don't bang into it. I did attach the included tire ramps to the main ramp and used some tool clamps to hold the bar to the ramps. Played "wheres the bar?" once too often, finding it under the tool box etc. The caster set is extremely well made and makes moving the lift around a one-person job (two are better but it can be done solo.)

I have photos if anyone is interested.

Look at the Bendpak MD-6xp. It's a mid-rise for less than 2k.

I agree.

Lifts higher, no bridge to deal with, can be moved.....costs a bit more.

Nice lift and pics.

Do you ever wish you could get to the ******? I like the "portability" and price of the scissor lifts, but I've always wondered about the jobs you can't do with them...

That's why I recommended the P6, it has open center. However, most of the time you'll be doing brakes, suspension, tires and oil change. Exhaust, and trans access is less often and for those once in a while tasks you could potentially go back to the basics (jack stands)

I have had my kwiklift for about 10 years and love it.
I recently put a new E brake on my 32, nice and easy to get to.
I now have my son's Trans Am on the lift, doing some clean up, ...

plus I can roll it outside and steam clean all our cars.

Good lift

One other thing, it is 100% made in the USA, and with what's going on in todays business climate, that should be very important to all of us...

For me personally, no.. but if you do a lot of transmissions then a scissor would be out. It works (better IMO) very well for virtually all other repairs and maintenance (detailing). I needed the ease of removing wheels and getting under my cars for detailing than I did for 'all access' down the middle of the car.

I also just bought a 4 post, so if I decide to pull a ******, it's no trouble.

Has anyone had any experience with the "over-the-center" type of quicklift? On the corvette forum, post #8, the guy shows a picture of his "Autolift" but he thinks they went out of business. Anyone know if there are any companies continuing that design? I'd still prefer something which enables wheel removal, but the over-the-center may be quicker than a "qwicklift." Thoughts?

Is taht anything like this?

Is there any fail-safe? Looks like it could also use some out riggers...

Similar, but I'd recommend the BP.. much better quality welds/hydraulic tubes and I prefer the safety on the BP. Regarding outriggers, no, they aren't equipped with any and don't need them.. The lift is over 3' wide and you couldn't push a car over on it if you tried.

Here's the safety:
