Driveway Coating

Hi Everyone,

New to the Journal and this is my first post. I live in the Chicago area and my driveway takes a beating every season. I'm looking for a do-it-yourself driveway coating system that can stand up to the Chicago weather. In searching the threads there I've found a lot of discussions about Rocksolid and Epoxy-Coat but those were all for garage flooring applications. Has anyone coated their driveway with either product? Any pros and cons to be mindful of? Any tips for coating a driveway?

Not for outside use. Mother nature would destroy it from underneath through moisture and up top through the sun. You want something that will dissipate cleanly over time and then reapply.

I could color my driveway red or brown if mixed with a concrete sealer? How long will that last? Would be kind of cool to not just have boring gray concrete.

Yes, it will need to be re-coated every few years, depending on the State, salt, snow, etc...

Needs two coats for opaque.

Go with a polymer overlay system. Tinted sealers are just a band-aide. Figure recoating at least every year with a tinted sealer. It's difficult to apply evenly and will show wear patterns very quickly.
