DRIVEWAY paint?

hi new here. i'm curious what paint people have used on DRIVEWAYS? i have 2-part epoxy shield for inside the garage, due to the gas/oil/tire resistance. being epoxy, it will turn yellow if used outside. my summers range from 90-118F daily and winter gets down to 25-30F every night.

i can't seem to find a product that can withstand gas/oils AND uv. i have about 450 square feet of my driveway comprised of concrete, so i can't afford or trust POR-15 floor armor. any other suggestions? i'm sorry i have tried to search but it returns a million results.

Why paint the driveway?
I use Thompsons concrete sealer to keep it from spralling.
Are you trying to cover up staining?

A good solvent based acrylic is what you need.....then expect to reseal every year or two depending on your weathering.

Epoxy will chalk outside and being that your driveway doesn't have a vapor barrier, it will delaminate. If you are in a dry climate area, like Arizona or Nevada, I've seen polyaspartic used successfully.

You might want to find Legacy Industrail.

I think they have a sale going on right now.

Thanks Les.

We all share your plight. If we supplied you with an exterior product strong enough to take care of everything on your punch list it would age horribly and it would trap moisture underneath it causing ghosting.

You need a solvent based acrylic sealer and here is why:
It will allow moisture to permeate through (no ghosting)
It will age quietly and discreetly, making future re-coats easier
It will give a nice sheen and make spills easier to clean up (oil, antifreeze)

Here is the link:
http://legacyindustrial.net/cart/hd6414-acrylic-sealer-5-gal-p-263.html

Two thin coats is all you need.

If you want a color, use our Easy Stain before the sealer and you will have a sweet looking drive. http://legacyindustrial.net/cart/concrete-easy-stain-and-densifier-hd410-p-242.html

A driveway paint that last in those temperatures would be hard to find, however The Surface Guardian has a great product for you. It adheres to concrete very well and will not crack, peel, or chip. It last for over 20 years and comes in many colors even clear just for protection of concrete.

So, it will last for 20 years, won't yellow, crack, peel, won't be picked up by Hot Tires, is impervious to Gas, Oil, solvents, and doesn't need re-coating?

Sounds like Magic Dust!

Les, can you say BS?:lol_hitti

Heh, well I just want to clarify it.

If you can lay that stuff down in FL weather and it's $50-$100 a gallon, sign me up!

Having painted a Driveway once and ended up with a Royal mess, call me Mr. Skeptic!

And personally, I'd rather do nothing, than end-up with a F*ck'd up bunch of **** that I have to expend tons of energy and expense to remove.

Hey Mr. Surface Guardian, I'll bite...please send me a small beige sample to my office

15 S Dean St, Englewood NJ 07631 att: Fernando Franco

I'll apply it to an area we typically use, then report it back to everyone on this forum. I will take before and after pics and give an honest assessment of your product.

Looking forward

I'll do the same. My yard is littered with concrete/stone sealer samples that I tried out. Thankfully they were what I thought they were and I didn't use them at an actual paying clients house.

How about a polyaspartic? Won't yellow, more durable than (most) epoxies, better elongation than (most) epoxies, great on concrete, no hot tire marks, chemical resistant. Do it yourself or get a pro to do it.

:shocking: hey, such a product COULD exist, right????

Legacy: how often does one have to re-coat, and what sort of prep is required to re coat??

Cruzin: which product is that? it looks sharp!

i've been trying to paint my garage floor for almost 2.5 years! i've realized the only feasible way will be one side at a time shuffling the stuff around.

That's LINE-X Aspart-X. LINE-X dealers sell and install it. However, there are lots of DIY polyaspartics, Google search "polyaspartic".

DO NOT PUT THE POLYASPARTIC OUTSIDE IT WILL GHOST!!!!
I love polyaspartic too but it does not belong on a driveway.

Your drive will look like a ghost parade.

Cruzn and Garage Guy, wait until my vette is painted. I am going put that puppy on a urethane flight deck!! Nice floors men.

What is the difference between this and the easy seal product? You have several clear sealers and I can't tell which one I want from the limited descriptions?

Hmmm, I have a small area with polyaspartic at my house and I have not yet experienced that, but I believe you!

i have ocd when i buy new stuff, i like it to be treated with pride.

Not to detract for the useful info likely to be posted in this thread, but lemme tell you a little story Mr. OCD. Once upon a time, we bought a bass boat. A real nice Skeeter, paid a lot of money for it. We lived near Lake Bridgeport, so it was a natural purchase. I was really proud of that boat. When we first put it on the water, I "over supervised" the wife and daughter about driving it, getting too close to things, and generally being an *** about it. To the point where they didn't want anything to do with it. While out, we decided to have lunch on the far side of the lake. Just to be clear, I had no idea how to drive the thing either. So when we came into the dock, we were going too fast. WHAM - punched the hell out of the dock. Blew a chunk of gel coat off the bow and generally scraped up the right side a little. The main point here - after that, we had a lot of fun with the boat. Tie up to stumps, run up on gravel, etc. I got over that "new boat" thing right after the impact. I maintained it and took good care of it, but we could USE it and no worry about bumping it into something or otherwise damaging it. It could be fixed. Got 3/4 of our money back out of it when we sold too - try that with most boats.

So now, when we buy something new - just about anything - my wife and I say right off "You gonna run it into the dock or should I". When our $35,000 Super Crew was new, the wind blew the door into a fence post and put a scuff on it. "It's just a boat, there will be more" and I use the hell out of that truck still.

My advice to you is to go drop something on the driveway, spill something, let the dog pee on it - anything to get past your "OCD it's new" business so you can USE it and have fun with it. Driveways fade, crack, get scarred, etc. It'll be OK.

Easy Sealer: Water based acrylic sealer, use outside or inside
HD-344 PolyAspartic: Very tough fast curing urethane, great for garage floors and areas prone to chemical spills, abrasion, etc...

OK, but you initially recommended
HD-6414, which is a solvent borne acrylic sealer.
I raised the easy seal and now you added this HD-344 polyaspartic. There is also the HD-31 and HD-015 to add to the confusion. Is this HD-15 the same product that also comes in colors and is used to paint the inside garage floor?

It would be nice to say which of these products is the best for outside concrete work.

Good point and I will look into adding some better info...

Best Outside Sealer: HD-6414: Roll on (2) thin coats
2nd Best: Easy Sealer: Spray on (2) thin coats
3rd Best: HD31: Roll or Spray (2) thin coats

I would not recommend anything else for outside use.

Best Inside Sealer: HD-344 PolyAspartic: Roll-On (2) coats (the bomb)
2nd best: (1) coat HD-015 with a topcoat or two of HD-356VOC
3rd best: (2) coats HD-015
4th best: HD-6414 (2) thin coats

All these can be stained prior with concrete acid stain or Easy Stain.

Thanks.

Hey, I love that, good advice.

No floor coating is going to stay scratch and scuff free, even high gloss for ever. Some people here have unrealistic expectations, if it sticks properly, that is the main thing, everything else is a bonus.

Thank you very much. Is there any problem getting the HD-6414 in CA?

Now for the inside, on the HD-015, is this the same thing that is in your cheaper epoxy kit that you list as 55 percent solids? Is it the case that you sell the HD-015 as a clear epoxy and a pigmented epoxy?:headscrat

CA?
Your own only choice outside is Easy Sealer or Hd31 for outside.
Inside you can use the HD-015.

Yes the HD-015 is the base for our Standard kit. We can make it clear or pigmented. The clear is only suitable as a sealer over stained or raw concrete.

scuffs? fading? who cares if it will not allow oils to be absorbed... i don't want to have to HCL etch every time i can't catch a spill before it soaks in.

Falcon: interesting point you make... :headscrat

Well, I've been asking around including other LINE-X dealers. No one has experienced ghosting with our product.
