Driveway stone and geo fabric

What is going to be the finish? ie Stone, concrete, asphalt. As a minimum i would want a total of 10" of aggregate. That may go up or down depending on loading requirements.
You can put the fabric over existing stone however make sure you have adequate material over the fabric 4-6" you don't want to fight the fabric if it comes up through the stone. That is a pain in the A$$

Have you talked to an excavator contractor or three to see what they recomend? In 1980 I had a drive cut in to go back to a pole barn and they took it down about a foot, but up until 2 years ago I had never added additional stone or gravel to the surface. And no fabric was put in.....don't even know if they had fabric then. Cost more initally, but as the say, the price is soon forgotten but the quality is long remembered!

Fabric is typically used for separation between soil and stone. It keeps the stone from sinking into soil and becoming "lost". I would think that if you have a good stone base, you shouldn't need the fabric. If you choose to use fabric, get good quality fabric from a contractor's supply store (not Lowe's). I would think for a regular driveway, 4 to 6 inches would be plenty.
