Framing in a living space with a shed roof, and want to put a drop ceiling in the bathroom. One wall the ceiling joists will be sitting on top of the wall, the other wall will have a ledger. The span in question is at the most 65 1/2 to 67" I can't remember off hand. I had planned on using 2x6 DF every 16". The one drop ceiling I did a few years back was out of 2x6 and we used a simpson 2x6 hanger at the ledger, hence why I am leaning towards the 2x6 for this ceiling. I found a span calculator online and its telling me I'm good to 7'10" with a 2x4. The weight this ceiling would see is a fan, a couple wafer LED lights, some 5/8 drywall and whatever blow in insulation I put in. Is that span out of question for a 2x4? And is a hanger necessary at the ledger?
