Drop light

Cleaning out Dads old shed and found his old drop light. Bring back a lot of memories of him in the driveway working on one of his cars. Anyway does anyone know how to replace electrical cord on this type. I thought it splits in halph but I seems to be moulded as one piece. It a shock just waiting to happen.

Oh, I would love to get an old style light like that!

Sorry, I don't have any info on how to change the cord, though.

Ya it's cool. It's made of some sort of hard rubber. The only downside of these are that they get as hot as a hot plate.

The ones I have, you just take off the bulb shield and split the two halves of the handle. They may be held together with 2 screws. The socket and switch can be bought at lowes or Home Depot, I had to replace the socket in mine a couple years ago.

I switched back to that old type of drop light like yours a couple years ago. Just put one of the new sulvania LED bulbs in it and it never gets hot . Heck it don't even get warm.

once the cage is off there is a split inline with the switch. spread that open and push the socket outwards and that should do it!

Make sure it's unplugged before you stick your fingers in there.

I have one just like it, and probably every bit as old - approaching 50 years now - still works fine. I did finally get tired of burning myself and various soft interior parts on it and put in a CFL bulb.....I don't like the light as much but I like not getting burned!

I think the clamp that holds the reflector on is all that holds the split rubber socket holder together, take that off and she comes right apart. I also cleaned and painted the inside of the reflector, mine was getting pretty manky....much like yours.

Try a new LED sulvania bulb in it. just as bright as ever, no burns, and no risk of breaking.
