You need to re-read the thread, the bashing started against the HF ratchet from the snap on guys and not the other way around. And it is about the warranty policies like you stated. The OP asked if the ratchet can be warrantied and some say it can and some said no and others took advantage of the situation to do some bashing.....

Maybe you need to reread the thread. I fired the first shot at blahing the outrageously over priced never to be found have your replacement Chinese made duel 80 in two weeks Snap-On brand in post 3 or 4 or someshit in the beginning.

I just warrantied a cranking battery at Walmart after more than three years. My receipt looked like it had been printed the day before. The clerk was amazed.

My secret? I store "important" thermally printed receipts like that in a ziplock bag in one of my freezers. Chemical reactions slow WAY the hell down at zero degrees.

Now email me a beer before I dislocate my shoulder patting myself on the back.

WoD

I just scan and print a laser printer copy of my thermal paper receipts. Never a problem.

You must have forgot your glasses today . Read post #6. It was the first shot fired against the original posters HF post. You did not come in till post #9 with your comment on that shot back at post #6. Anyways, it is still there if you want to re-read it again ;)

It was a freebie composite ratchet. Just did not want to deal with the headaches. That is my only grip about HF's ratchets, the selectors are the weak point of the design.

Mrholeshot had did a very good and positive review on that ratchet. But yesterday I did look one over at the HF store and noticed they use a plastic selector switch now. The one in holeshots review looks to be metal.....

I'm not real interested in anything made by the Americans i personally know.

Stop shitting on threads. If we all made the money, we would have full Snap On sets.

Not me, Hazet, and grey pin stripe coveralls that say Hazet on the back in big letters.

I should have just posted "I dropped my ratchet. Help me fix it."

:D

In all seriousness, I'll probably just buy another. It is a cheap tool, and I don't mind buying another if I can't find my receipt. I like this one best because I can "one-hand" the direction lever instead of the round swivel head ones.

Don't really know if you can really consider that as firing a shot. Maybe throwing a rock but not really firing a shot.

This thread turned into the usual HF vs. Snap On garbage thread.

The OP dropped a ratchet and it broke and inquired about warranty or fixing it. The simple answer is that HF's written policy is they require a receipt, but each store may or may not enforce that policy. Take it to the store and see what they say.

Instead there was posts about how snap on is good or ***** and how HF is good or *****. Who cares. What works for one person may not work for the other.

I say we keep the thread going until the PO takes the ratchet back and finds out what happens.

I wish I could break a tool, but I never seem to, so I can't test it myself.

*** Screwdrivers don't count, and I did break one ratchet, but no trouble with the Snapon guy repairing it.

My number one pet peeve is someone spewing absolute BS and advertising it as the gospel truth.
This is my first post on this forum ever. It may be my last, not sure yet. Just watch out for those "internet thugs" they will judge you.
You have to be realistic if you are going to make it these days.

I like this guy. Welcome to the forum.

X2...I'm with both of you on this one. I have a collection of tools dating back to the early 60's. The only truck brand tools I have other than SK (and Leroy was a personal friend) are the ones I've found over the years.

This is a non issue.

Take it back to HF and ask them to replace it under warranty. If they do it, you have a new replacement ratchet. If they refuse because you don't have a receipt, then shell out another $10 and buy a new one. Keep the receipt this time.

Don't drop your fragile $10 ratchet and you won't have to keep going back for new ones. If you get tired of going back time after time, get a higher quality ratchet.

I was in HF this past weekend and I asked the manager about the warranty and he said as long as it has Pittsburg on it they will warranty it.

Since I'm in FL on vacation I thought I would update this thread. I stopped by on the weekend during the parking lot sale. Asked about exchanging the ratchet. They told me no problem, no receipt needed. Of course, I forgot it at home. I bought another one. I can report that the ratchet head has been redesigned so the selector handle doesn't stick out as far. I can see how this will prevent the selector from breaking off as easily.
