It's coming together. My perfect shop/apartment space has zapped a ton of my time and with the amount of space that's here, the work seems to keep piling up.

For those of you who didn't e-mail me for an update, this is an update to my intro post about finally finding a place to live and work on my cars.

Here's the intro if you are interested with ton of pics of the general space and some cool details of the space: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44607

A lot of my time has been put into the basics: redoing boarded up windows, squaring away insulation, reinsulating water lines in the attic and such.

I started with the living side... again, a small easy to sustain area attached directly to the shop.

The kitchen is a tight fit with very limited cabinets. I picked up a couple old school Kennedy boxes for the shop, but they fit my needs for silverware perfectly. Girlfriend bought me a fancy coffee doo-dad with the little cups so i needed a place to keep those too...
Anyone date them for me?
By the way, the pair was 25 bucks.

The shop side hasn't had much time or effort yet. My work season is kicking off and it's been slow going. I have had time to pick up a few things I need from craigslist.

Huge Cleveland Vice. Not much for a ground-n-pound vice, but for $20 who could pass up such a piece?

I also picked up a Kennedy roller, sidecab and hillbilly top as well. The previous owner blasted and cleared the drawers, and the box itself is kind of gunmetal. Needs a thorough cleaning and a new top, but for $120 delivered...

I had a 4x8 sheet of plywood on sawhorses floating around the shop. I used it for everything... sorting, cleaning and even beerpong for a work party to christen the place. It was so handy I decided to build a table around the plywood. First I figured I would need a second level shelf for stability, but it's much sturdier than I thought. This isn't the ****** rebuild table for sure.

A good project beer fridge. Anyone know where I can get a new door seal for this sucker?

This is some of the typical time consuming work so far: securing the back door after a couple break-ins before I was here.

I have always wanted a drill press. I think I found the perfect one for me. Don't ask what I paid for it or how solid it is. You'll cry. Let's just say it was a steal and came with a huge bag of sharp bits.

I know, I know... I need some more time to build some workbenches, lay out the tool area and get everything up and running... but it's coming together a little at a time. Thanks for the inspiration and ideas, I have a list of things I'm planning based solely on this site and once I start I'll bring you along the way. This was just to keep everyone up to date.

looks like it's gonna be an awesome place man... but i dunno about it being a "***** dropper"..... unless you happen to find a chick that's REALLY into that type of thing. even then, they'll do what most women do, and come up with ideas of making it more feminine. lol

I actually like the top on the roller cab. And handy table build as well. I got to ask since you brought it up, what'd you give for the drill press?

Ah... forgot.
The old place was the real ***** dropper. Someone in my intro post was consoling me after giving it up and commenting that with some effort the place could be the PD II.
Sorry about that.

No, it's not a ***** dropper... It's the perfect simple, utilitarian living style I have been looking for.

The top of the roller is a great idea with ****** execution. It's poorly cut and is beat to all hell. I'm definitely going to either cut a new piece or strip what's there and coat it in bedliner or something to go with the colors of the metal.

The press was $40. Was the first time I paid an asking price off CL. The chuck is a Jacobs and is smooth as silk. The unit looks like it was rarely used.

Umm... what's with the axe handle clipped to the door?

Not a big fan of firearms...
Actually, it's more for sentimental reasons, we used to keep 3 of them at the front door to a college apt.
That door had been broken into while the previous tennant was there. Some drug activity was suspected according to the local cops I am buddies with.
Surely makes a statement though, doesn't it?

Very cool pics!
I can't help with the door seal for the beer fridge, but I CAN tell you that it dates to 1942-3. I had the exact fridge awhile ago, wish I hadn't gotten rid of it.

Keep us updated on your progress. I am sorry firearms don't fit your style, but at least that one less thing of value to get stolen if you get broken in again. I think if anyone can get through that door with what you have done to it, more power to them. WOW! I am really interested to see how you redo your fridge. Keep the pics/posts on it, especially if you end up painting it and customizing it. Good luck with it all!

Or convince you to give it up for the "good life" in the burbs, in a nice HOA settlement. :lol_hitti

For your back door. Install a full lenght blocker plate on the outside. Go pretty thick so they can't bend it. Drill holes threw plate and door and install cariage bolts. Take out the strike and install the longest one you can make. Also a full wrap plate wouldn't hurt on the door to secure it.

Agreed.

Maybe add a siren that is triggered if the door opens from the outside and it's armed?

You could even use one of those sirens that people install with car alarms, I guess the frequency will actually make you want to get out of there asap because it physically hurts. Just don't forget it's armed and enter through the back door... ever.

I have that same drill press. I got from my Grandmother after my Grandfather passed away years ago. I have never seen another one. I know that Grandpa was a tightwad & got alot of tools from the Popular Mechanics catalog. I always assumed thats where it came from.
