Been a lurker here for some time thanks to a link from another Forum dealing with machine tools.
Since 1994, I have been restoring and upgrading an old farmhouse stacked onto a hillside back in 1828 surrounded by old sugar maples and a killer view of 5 ski areas. The farmhouse is part of an old property that was once over 150 acres and a local landmark if not legend.
The major buildings are framed in hand-hewn white oak in the post and beam fashion with harder wood pegs holding things together. Not only are they a stylish and handsome lot, they are ridiculously solid.
Thus began my list of projects such as creating a garage out of some spaces in the attached ell, major barn preservation including a new standing seam metal roof, new concrete footings and a replacement of the front 70' sill beam. We also run a small Christmas tree and wreath operation from the property.
Did I mention that I travel to NYC and Boston for work? Makes for lots of thinking time and cranial engineering BEFORE we bust out the tools. As a motion picture camera operator and Steadicam® operator, I have blocks of time for work and variable blocks of time for home life. More on that later.
Here's a look at the major components of the place: See Photos below.
I will start a couple of threads detailing both the garage work and the main barn rehab. What does anyone think? Let's hear it all.
