I bought a lot at an auction a couple of weeks ago and one of the machines was a strange sanding machine like I'd never seen before. It's identical to this one, but of a different brand: http://lobomachine.com/shop/item.aspx/brush-pneumatic-drum-sander/261

I'm a metal guy, I know absolutely nothing about woodworking. I've never found the right electrode to weld white pine. Are these machines sought after by woodworkers, or are they just one of those gimmicky machines to sell to newbie woodworkers? If it is desirable, what is a used one in good condition worth?

No they are absolutely at home in a woodworkers shop if they do any kind of contour, bevel, bowl type finishing.

The idea is the flaps will conform to the shape. Think guitars, chair seats, etc...

They are sought after, you might find a buyer for $200-400 depending on your market.

You can also create a verticle table to use like a standard drum sander but on its side

If you are really creative you could even make a horizontal platen and make a low end thickness sander

Well, that's great info, guys! I appreciate it. I'm glad to know maybe I can sell this and get my money back on it. Hopefully I can find a woodworker in the area that can use it. Thanks for the replies!
