As a type of tool, spindle/drum sanders are great. I'm not a fan of Ryobi, however. If you are a light duty, occasional user, it's probably OK. I wouldn't get one for more than occasional use.
Take a look at the Ridgid, as well. It takes drums, as well as belts.
Also, if you have a drill press, and won't be using them much, you can buy drums to chuck into your drill press that work well. Like this:
