Dry Rust Protection

Wondering what's a bit better if any. I'm still just using the Boeshield I have on hand.
For tools that don't get used often - aka, it will get oily, I spray them down with Boeshield just to mitigate surface rust that may develop.
I like Boeshield as it is a dry application.

What do you guys use for a -dry- application

For a dry rust-preventative application, I prefer Eezox.

My tablesaw gets a paste wax rub down every few years as needed.

If the item in question is in a container (think tool box/etc.) get a VCI capsule.

For tools that get used outside - think axes, shovels, etc. where paint seems inappropriate a bit of boat soup works wonders. What is boat soup? Linseed oil, turps, pine tar, splash of Japan drier or regular varnish. Some blacksmiths prefer beeswax and linseed oil thinned with turpentine, but the boat soup mixture appears more rugged.

For my machining tools oil seemed to work well in sunny CA since it worked if I left them out; when I finally get the shop here in WA built we'll see what happens.

Anything with a table that I can't put away gets Johnson's Paste Wax. Other precision tools with machined faces (planes, etc) go into tool cabinets or boxes w VCI emitters (Bullfrog)

Automotive paste wax almost universally contains silicones. Fine in most cases, but not good on tablesaw tops and such. Johnson paste wax is safe for finishes, but was recently discontinued. Butchers wax is the same thing and is still available.

My "shop" is climate controlled 24/7 365. Rusting isn't a big problem for my tools.

If anything, I will give my machining tools/equipment a light rub down with a light oil.

I got three 16 oz tubs for $1 each at a garage sale mid COVID. Set for my lifetime.

Even use it to wax infill bodies.
