You don't need to change to whole thing out, the louvers come out pretty easy. You just need a replacement cover to take the louvers off. Yes you still need someone to climb the ladder and fix it but no need to dismantle everything.

The louvers are keyed at each end and fit into the slots on the housing. I just repaired a couple on my house.

These things are about as cheap as you can get for such an important purpose.

I got a set of these:

They have built in flapper valves. My biggest concern are that birds can make a home in them, so they have to minimize that, and keep rain out. I will get them installed next Friday, either by me, and a rented lift, or by someone else.

Looks like you have at least 3 vents to replace and it would easily pay for itself. Get the JLG as it has a nice joystick controller.

I rented on last year to do some trees. Piece of cake.

Good idea. I have some trees that need lower level trimming. Who did you rent from?

:lol_hitti

I tried fixing the title, autocorrect, but it didn't work.

I changed it for you Jim.

Heights don't matter to some people, whether it's 6 feet or 26", they're not getting on a ladder. For others, they'll go up 100' with a harness in a tree or half drunk to paint their name on a water tower.

I'd rent the lift and try to get a few other things done. . . . like put the wife in it and tell her to wash the upper windows on the outside.

Thanks!

Yeah, the lift idea really appeals to me. I don't want to pay the $4K for tree trimming (I know they will do more than me, but I want just the low limbs gone.).

The windows tilt, so easy cleaning.

I rented from HomeDepot but had them match the price of a local place called Art's Rental. HomeDepot was just closer and easier. They will only match the exact same model. Just about any tool rental will have a towable lift. Like I said, look for the JLG. It has a joystick and selector knob in the boom and the Bil-Jax has push buttons. Not sure about any other brands.

You will have to have access to push a towable lift into position with the tow vehicle to get it into place, they do not move on their own.

Cool, I will check it out. That should do nicely. It is a bit tight, but I am confident I can back it wherever I need it.

Thanks,

At first glance I was alarmed that you had Alien Pollen Circles on your patio :shocking:

Than I realized you just moved a messy hose for a cleaner photo.

Marc

LOL Took me a second.

Here is a night view tonight. We just power washed and resanded the whole patio last weekend. Damn lot of work.

Hey, it's a beautiful Patio and backyard.

VERY nice.

Just foolin w you.

BBQ must be off to the side ?

Ahhh... looks like a little covered fire pit... more than adequate for Steaks.

DANG !!!! Now there is a UFO landing on the table !!!!!!!!!!

Are you young enough for "things" to "happen" on that round bed?

If so, :needpics:

Very nice patio Jim.

As far as the round bed goes, after a belly full of food and a few rum & Pepsi's I know where I would be crashed out for the night.

Not to discourage ... but if you have never used one of them (lift) -- It not something I would do w/o some guidance. I had trouble using a larger, more stable one that had been set up by my contractor -- I was just using for inspection. They bob all over the place

Also -- the vent you bought is technically designed when access is available inside --- unless that length of duct is an odd size and designed to slide over another duct. Typically that type --- vent w/ integral duct ....is secured on an exterior wall and the length of duct is enough to enter the dwelling -- the duct from the dryer is inserted and screw together to this exposed duct.

The proper way to install a vent when the inside is not accessible is to take the rigid duct all the way to the outside plane of the house and slide a cap over the ridged duct. If it was done correctly the plastic duct should just be a cap. Also -- some the type you purchased can trap lint at the swing and they stick open ... make sure it's a heavy duty one ... but I'm sure it will still get lint. they are fine when you can get to them ... does that lower window open?

Post one. I asked if there are any that allow installation from the inside, so obviously I have access from the inside.

As for the lift, I am sure I can handle it.

Never seen one that can be installed from the inside because the exterior flange has to be larger than the ventilation pipe diameter.

 I am impressed by the professionalism of the company I hired. They did a nice job.

A phone call to the office expressing how you felt is always nice and a good google review is a really nice thing to do, companies live and die by those reviews now days.

Yup, no added fees. They even added a bit of insulation on the AC drain line in the attic since it was condensating. Good guys!

Looks great! It is wonderful to hire professionals when you know you need help.

Small shop. I was dealing with the son of the owner. Angie's List will definitely get a good review from me on them.
