I'm getting ready to install a dryer in a laundry closet. I wasn't really thinking when I cut the duct flush to where the sheet rock would end. How can I attach a 4" solid duct to that pipe.

Can I cut a short stub piece and use a right angle drill to secure the stub in place? The stub will be short enough so I can get my hand in there. I do own a duct crimper.

Dryer venting should, of course, always transition away from the dryer from smaller to larger (hope this makes sense). This is doubly true with Gas dryers. You should be able to find a transitional dryer vent adapter (again flowing from smaller to larger) that will slip into the duct you've installed (pro HVAC shops might be your best bet on this). Please do not use any type of screw(s) that project into the inside of the vent duct/adapter/hose as a means of securing any dryer vent duct assembly (said screws are notorious for collecting lint that can, over time, cause very severe safety risks). Always use external hose clamps for such connections, or external vent straps/bands that attach to a wall that keep the connections secure.
