I am getting ready to have drywall put on the ceiling and walls. The current plan is to use a semi-gloss paint over the drywall.

Any suggestions as to what type of finish I should use for the drywall - Smooth, orange peel ?

Thanks,
Mordi

I am just getting ready for drywall. I plan on a smooth finish. I like the upscale look of smooth walls you see in high end houses and higher end office bldgs. I know it will take a bit of extra work to get the finish nice and smooth, but worth it in the log run. Plus the semi-gloss paint will give an even reflection of light. I will first do a drywall primer, then a spray coat and back rolling (i think that is what it is called, spray first then use a paint roller to smooth it out). I figure I will have to do a fair amount of sanding to get the smooth finish I'm looking for.
btw, what size, 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inch will you use on ceiling?

I've used the "bright white" or "gloss white" in eggshell I think it was, from Wal Mart, worked great. Love having the reflectivity of the light in there. Painted the ceiling with it too. You don't want a "dull" paint, b/c it will stain easy (spongy like). Glossy will let paint wipe off.

I don't know what the exact "type" is, whether it was gloss, semi-gloss, or eggshell.

I painted mine gloss on the ceiling and semi on the walls (white) It really reflects the light and easier to keep clean.
