I have 13' 6" ceilings and the highest drywall lift I could find was the standard with an extension to 15'. so....I'm no help here.

Menards carries a lift that goes to 11' and, with an optional extension section, it will go to 17'. http://www.menards.com/main/tools-hardware/hand-tools/drywall-tools/pro-drywall-panel-lift/p-1740598-c-8951.htm

Thank you. I am going to have to look into that one. They dont offer shipping on that unit and there are no Menard's on the east coast. But maybe be able to figure out which brand it is and try to source it elsewhere.

One thing, I have seen with other 11' lifts with the extensions are that 6' have the total length of 15'... it's like you loose a little of the 6' in the connection.

Maybe if you or another forum member are in Menard's they can figure out the brand name.

Build a rolling box for lift to sit on. Be the easiest way to do it

Exactly what I am doing right now for my 19' ceilings in my house. I am not sure if the Menards lift would actually reach 17' either. I did a lot of searching for a tall lift and everyone I came across would reach 16' with the 6' extension.

Table worked out great as I finished my ceiling today except for one small strip. It is 6'x8' and 4' high. I made it that big so the sife and I could get the sheet on the table. Then we both get on the table and lift it onto the lift. From there, the fun would start.

One note about the lift extension, it reduces the lowest height it will go as well. Makes it too high for one person to try and stick a sheet onto the lift. What ever you do, be careful.

Why not make a base for it, that fits your measurements? At least your going about it the right way. Hanging full drywall sheets from a ladder plain ***** lol.

And yes to those observant ones, I did add a cross brace before I started using it. :)

Check the size of the rod used for the top mount. I've made several extensions out of black pipe and solid rod. 1/2" id black pipe usually works fine for the extension, and a piece of solid 1/2" od rod for the bottom usually works for a new bottom mount piece. Simply place the rod inside the black pipe with approximately 3-4" sticking out. And weld it in place. You now have a removeable extension. It goes without saying that you buy the blackpipe in the length you need to be raised. Best part with this method is the lift is still squarely on the ground.

Just a thought. I'm assuming that this is in an open area garage with a cement floor. If this is correct, you could rent a scissor lift.

here is a 4 foot extension for the drywall lifts.
says it will take a 15' lift up to 19'

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001SU3AJE/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Are these extensions pretty universal? My brother has a lift from HF that I plan to borrow , but I have a section that will be ~15'. I'd hate to buy an extension and then find out that it did't work.

The pipe idea is worth considering, but I would think that it could be difficult to lift a sheet of drywall up onto the lift if the pipe is too long. Is there another trick?
