Anyone ever the use the below in your garage? I like to "overbuild" things and am thinking the below would be a good improvement over regular 5/8 dry wall.. Thanks

USG Sheetrock® Brand Mold Tough® AR Firecode® X Panels are available in UL Type DesignationAR, and were designed and tested to off er greater resistance to surface indentation and impactdamage than standard USG Sheetrock® Brand Gypsum Panels. These panels are a low-cost
alternative to other systems for partitions that require greater impact resistance, are UL Classifi edas to fi re resistance and meet the requirements for Type X in the model building code.
USG Sheetrock® Brand Mold Tough® AR Firecode® X Panels have a noncombustible, moistureresistantcore that is encased in moisture- and mold-resistant, 100 percent recycled green-faceand brown-back papers. The face paper is folded around the long edges to reinforce and protect
the core, and the ends are square cut and fi nished smooth. Long edges of panels are tapered, allowing joints to be reinforced and concealed with a USG joint treatment system.

I punched a hole in 7/16" OSB with a golf cart and regularly bounce disabled race cars off the back wall. No drywall would hold up here.

Isn't that just plain old commercial sheetrock? With green paper? A little blocking for likely hanging, mounting, or impact points makes sheetrock much tougher.

Type X is a denser, heavier sheetrock that is fire resistant. I used type X on the wall that divides my garage in half because my temporary apartment was in one half.

That's the product being used in bathrooms. More resistant to moisture. I have regular drywall in my garage and never had issues. Sure theres a few dents in walls but a easy fix if I were concerned.

Commonly called "fire wall"

If it is an attached garage, it is code required between on the garage side of house side wall.

If this is a parking garage it will look good.
If it is a shop it will not hold up the abuse.

Type X wallboard has fibers in it so it can withstand a hose stream in a fire. Hence, it is stronger than regular wall board.
It is not called "fire wall". A fire wall is a type of wall described in most codes and in most cases is not constructed with wallboard. In most codes, a firewall divides a building so that each side of the fire wall is treated as a separate building under those codes.
Type X has no fire resistance rating on its own. It is a component in fire rated wall systems listed by UL, GA, FM and some codes.
It is better for your purposes than regular wallboard.

Type C is for insulated fire rated ceiling assemblies. For fire rated wall assemblies, type X is more appropriate. Type C has diminished fire properties if installed vertically in a fire resistive wall assembly.

Just have regular 1/2 inch and while it gets beat up occasionally there's hardly an inch of wall that doesn't have something hanging on it or in front of it so its rarely seen anyways
