Drywall mudding hack - using caulk on inside corners

I have to tape a sheetrock box I built to hide a kitchen exhaust. All the adjacent walls and ceiling are already painted. Can I caulk the inside corners to avoid painting the adjacent walls and ceilings? Some of those walls are fairly large.

Another option is to lay a piece of tape flat on the inside corners and only stick it to the unfinished drywall. I'll slide the tape up to hide the seams. All the framing was done with metal studs, so there shouldn't be much of an expansion / contraction issue.

Mud the screws along the wall seam if you have a tapered edge flat tape that. You can caulk to existing painted wall with good results. The only thing I can think of that could be a concern is fire, since taping is for slowing a fire. Since it is caulked you wouldn't have an air draw through there so I don't think it is a concern. Cosmetically it will be great.

Caulked and started mudding. I’m a terrible mudder - but many coats and sanding is my friend.

I’ve never depended on caulk solely. In that particular scenario I bevel-cut the abutting side, filled and flat taped. After completing the finishing, sanding, and primer, I run a bead of caulk before painting.

I have done it when adding a wall at a textured ceiling , it seems to hold up OK. just don't put a tapered edge to the corner as it will show up ( unless it's mudded) ) I put latex caulk along the edge of the drywall , push it in place , caulk the joint & finger it out .
