I think you'd be fine. I live in mid north Ontario Canada and tons of garages here have drywall. It gets stinkin cold. the only thing to worry about is making sure if you're mudding joints etc that it's warm enough that the mud doesn't freeze. As for the moisture, you don't want drywall sitting right on the slab, nor would you really want any siding for that matter.

I'm in PA, close to the MD border with drywall on my walls. My garage is only heated when I'm working in it, but it is well insulated so that helps A LOT!!!

Also make sure you keep the moisture level (humidity) down. A small fan in a window or hole is the best. On a humidistat, even better.

My attached, fully sheetrocked 19x19 gets heat when I"m working out there. Unfortunately, there is no insulation above it, but it does have it in the walls (last owner did this). I definitely have to leave the door cracked when using my Big Buddy and/or Kerosene non vented as the moisture builds up decently quick. You'll actually be better not using any heat until you have it fully insulated.

Also happens when the wife's explorer comes in during the winter.

Thanks for all the responses, I feel better about using drywall. I plan on insulating ceiling & walls & painting drywall right away.

Can you actually see moisture on the walls when you heat your garage or just in the air?

No buildup on walls, just on walk-thru door window and knob assemblies.
