I have a newbie drywall framing question. I have a metal enclosure that acts as a PVC junction box with a door, but the placement will end up being in the middle of a normal 16" stud cavity. I was planning to have a 2x4" stud on the bottom side that it rests on and 1x4" for the other three sides to anchor the drywall. Would this thickness (3/4") be enough to support drywall around the frame (it looks a little skinny to me)? I could go more, but 1 1/2" is kind of chunky on the sides and I don't really have any tools to plane down a stud's thickness to say 1" (actual). Is it possible to find 5/4" thick wood in a lumber yard? Appreciate any advice.
