I have both. OSB under the Sheetrock.

It's the best of both. Sheetrock is a nice clean finish with a solid backing underneath to allow for easily attaching shelves hooks etc.

In the grand scheme of things it wasnt that much money.

I got the best of both - brought home the first 10 sheets of 7/16" OSB for the ceiling...and a 5 lb dry chemical extinguisher

I used hardi-panel for the bottom 4 ft and 1/2in plywood above that. my worry was more about fire proofing the inside. I do a lot of welding and grinding and didn't want a stray spark burnng the place down.

On another note I do use plywood under the rock in my rent houses. Keeps pesky little fist holes from appearing in the walls. Kinda funny watching some clown with two broken hands loading his furniture after being evicted!

put the osb or ply behind d-wall . use this for the walls only. u can mount anyware. d-wall looks nicer and is fire rated.

Someone here used old redwood fence pickets that he, I think, pressure washed off. Looked fantastic and he paid next to nothing for em.

I agree this topic has been discussed to death almost as much as what to use for an airline.

Love it! Tenants do not give a damn about other people's property & that is a instance where stupidty is painful. :D

But to get back to the subject of the thread, my shop is 5/8" drywall tape & textured w/ 3/8" plywood under the gable ends as shear panels, the ceiling is 2X6 T&G pine decking (open beam ceiling) it was attached to a pumphouse w/ a dirt floor & got tired of it so decided to pour concrete, it ended up as a complete demo & rebuild, in finishing it decided to use OSB as a interior finish that was left unpainted, the OSB stench is almost gone ATM, but repurposed some cheap kitchen cabinets from a tract home kitchen remod & since had no idea how they were going to be laid out until they were hung, it made it EZ to pop off a couple of lower sheets to run MC, metal clad cable to T5 undercabinet FL fixtures on the upper cabinets.
