Drywall overspray cleanup

Hi all,

Long time viewer, first time posting.

I'm prepping my floor for an epoxy coating. There is quite a bit of drywall texture overspray on the floor, particularly by the walls. I rented a floor buffer with a scrubbing pad and used an industrial soap to scrub any oil stains. This had no effect on the drywall. Lacquer thinner seems to soften the overspray a little but not much. I've spent a lot of time with a scraper and razor blade knife trying to scrape this up, but that's pretty time consuming.

Any suggestions? I will be renting a power washer after I acid etch. Will that help?

If my epoxy sticks like this drywall, my floor should last a lifetime!! Remind me to kill my drywall guy if I ever see him!!

Thanks,
Skyking

I have had some luck (but not 100%) with a flat point shovel and a strong boot.

D@mn finishers... :D

The black (extra coarse) scrubing pads should take it up as will 60 grit sanding sheets and as you have already found a razor blade scraper. Once level with the surface a good power washer (3,500 psi) might clean the pores.

Respectfully it is not the finishers fault the overspray is still there. It is the homeowner that let him get away without completing the job or didn't spec the job right in the first place. Payment upon completion and passing final inspection.

Drywall slop = gypsum + water.
Gypsum is base
Acids, from vinegar thru dilute muriatic will disolve the gypsum.
Muriatic diluted in water is what masons use to scrub excess mortar off brickwork. Scrubbing tool is a corse brick and stiff scrubbrush.
Hose off with plenty of water after scrubbing.

I was able to remove all joint compound/texture blotches with a wide blade scraper, then power wash, then muriatic acid etch. Finally power washed again to remove etching slop. The blade left the floor with white spots that the power washer removed. Is this fun or what?!
