So I’m getting ready to paint and I want to install the rubber baseboard trim, but I need to do some prep work to get the walls ready for paint and to adhere the baseboard to the wall. Attached a couple of photos so you guys can see what I need to work around. In the photos, you can see where the existing paint and whatever else is flaking off. Also, the concrete from the stepped sides of the foundation is really flaking away.
I want to go with like an 8” baseboard to cover most of this up, so mainly I want to learn how to prep this so that the baseboard stays in place.
I am also planning on taking the baseboard all the way to the floor, covering the exposed foundation sides on all of the walls except one. In the pics, you can see I have one wall where the wall is recessed, so I won’t be able to run it all the way down on that wall.
So...my questions are this...
- how to I prep this drywall along the bottom to get rid of those flaking areas in preparation for paint and baseboard attachment??
- what should I do to fill in that concrete and stop that from progressing or to just make it look descent?
- where’s the best place/brand of baseboard to get? I know if comes in big rolls, but hardwares stores only seem to have 4”, and I know it come soon in wider.
Thanks guys.
