I pulled the strips off the double sheets of National Gypsum Gold Bond drywall and found lines of gypsum splatter on both paper faces. Never saw this before? I don't really want to haul this back out of the basement. Wipe it off with a damp sponge?

I would use the flat mesh screen tool made for smoothing drywall joints. Plain sand paper will load up more quickly and may scuff up the paper if you are too aggressive.

Is it hard like spray texture? You can probably scrape it off with a d-wall knife. I see you are in Pennsylvania so im guessing you will be doing smooth wall, and not texture or i would suggest just leaving it until after you finish it. It's not that bad you would have to return it. Terry

You must have really good framing if you won't need to skim coat anything.
