Hi All - I'm hanging some drywall on my basement ceiling for a mudroom and I've added Strapping on the ceiling at 24 inch on center. What thickness drywall do I use with 24" spans? Will 1/2" sheets sag over time?

thanks

I too will be finishing my basement ceiling and wondering the benefit of strapping. My house was built in 1986 and had 2x10 joists.

I've seen it done on virtually all homes on this old house - but i assume it was because the joists may not be level or some settling in an older home?

Is strapping provide an added benefit for future proofing and running wires?

Should i consider it for my basement ceiling?

Thanks I searched for that recent thread but couldn’t find. I find that strapping helps give a bit of clearance from wire and pipe runs and helps level the ceiling enough to not be noticeable. Appreciate the help!
