Drywall's done

Drywall's is done, taped, spackled, and sanded. Looking for some suggestions for paint. Do I need to prime? I am thinking about a semi-gloss, white finish. Anyone out there do the full gloss finish? It would seem to clean better??

I always use one primer and two top coats. Though my paint store (Sherwin Williams) claims it isn’t necessary to use a primer. White Semi-Gloss is my choice on walls and ceilings. Gloss will show more imperfections in drywall seams and will not cleanup any better than Semi-Gloss.

Primer is really only necessary when you have stains you need to seal, or when you have a surface that the paint won't soak into very well. Drywall absorbs paint quite easily, and it bonds very well.

There's no harm in using it though, one coat of primer, and one coat of paint will probably work just as well as 2 coats of paint.

Same here. I probably could get away with less, but it just always looks right when done this way. Makes up for any imperfections in the applicator's (me) technique.

I used a primer product made by the same company that made the drywall mud. Came in a 5 gallon bucket and it made my 1 coat of paint cover really well.

Probably USG First Coat. I used it too.
