I just read this whole thread. Only thing constructive I can add is that I would have used two combination wrenches to "break" the nut loose then went for the ratchet. Hind site being 20/20 as it is.

Also, spline count on an axle is proportional to diameter. The spline profile on an axle is the same for most axles so to add splines you must increase the diameter.

It dawned on me the title of this thread "DUAL 80 DESTRUCTION" isn't quite right. The "dual 80" part held up well, in fact I bet the OP has a very nice little palm ratchet now. Maybe it should be "FLEX JOINT DESTRUCTION".......Just sayin'
