Just one mans humble opinion here.
I just got an 88 tooth kit for my 1/4" and 1/2" gearwrench ratchets, they're nice, but I went on the snapon truck today and played with an S80 and wow! these are unbelievably smooth! I didn't know they would be that much better. In retrospect I think the S80 is worth the extra $75 :(

OTOH I didn't see as much of a difference in the 1/4" versions, I still think the SO one wins though. I haven't played with an 88 3/8", but I'm more than happy with my FHX80 so I don't think i will ever need to compare the two.

(keep this discussion civil or I will blow this ***** up!)

The Snap on dual 80 design really shines in 1/2 drive. The S80 series is probably the smoothest 1/2 ratchet out there. In 3/8 drive the F80 is pretty good but, I prefer my Matco 88 and 60 tooth series along with my Gearwrench ratchets with much thinner heads. I do like the FHF80 as no one else makes a 60 tooth ratchet in that length. I don't like the Snap on T72 series 1/4 drive ratchets. The head is too big, the ratchet action binds, I broke a direction switch off of one. In 1/4 my preferred ratchets are Gearwrench and Matco 60 tooth series but, that's just me, use what you like. I think Snap on needs to take another look at the T72 series and improve it.

I defiantly agree with Snap-on taking another look at the T72 series. I bought one awhile ago, and I always grab my SK 1/4" first because the head is smaller.

I have a dual 80 3/8 flex head and I really like it, as well as a 3/8 88 tooth comfort grip and 1/2 88 tooth locking flex head ratchet and I have to admit that I am finding my Dual 80 becoming more of a go to tool now. But that could also be the fact that it is the newest addition to my box!

You're unimpressed with everything! :wtf:

Not everything in fact I can give you a very long things that I am very impressed with if you would like.

That really blows my mind :headscrat
can you describe in better detail what you didn't like?

The mechanism had way to much tension between teeth. You could actually feel the ratcheting mechanism way to easily. I was surprised because I was set to buy it but couldn't bring myself to buy something with a mechanism that felt that lousy. Now if you want a smooth mechanism look at one of the old Protos or 24 tooth Eascos or RHFT Craftsmans or even the SO round heads. On those you twist the drive and you can barely feel each tooth engage.

Wow, picky picky! You should get one of the MAC gear-less ratchets. If you can get past the clunky large heads, mediocre castings, etc, there is absolutely no clicking between teeth, as there are none!

I have not ried the Matco 88 but the Snappy 80's are very nice. I will second the 1/2 drive comment on their smoothness. I have a want list of about 875.00 worth of brand new Snappy ratchets. Most of them are the 1/2 size along with a few 3/8. Just a want list but who knows.
