Finally joined the snap on bandwagon, bought a 3/8 18" non flexing, and was wondering if I should grease it or is so pretty good about doing that? Also what do you guys use in your ratchets? I usually use molly grease. Thanks! The ratchet is killer btw.

Long time readers will recognize that the standard answer is either:
1. Red lube of love aka RLL (permatex assembly lube)
or
2. Whatever is in the bucket of oil when I accidentally drop my ratchet.

The action should be smooth, not clunky.
If its the former, id use it as is.
Snap-on includes Superlube in their repair kits.

Snap on puts a good lubricant in there from the factory. If you feel the need to lube it I remember seeing a thread on different lubes, might have to search for it. Enjoy the ratchet they are costly but a very useful investment.

Leave it be. With the sealed head you shouldn't really need to lube it again until installing a rebuild kit, and then Snap-on includes a tube of Superlube with the kit.

No, it's sealed. Maybe after a 3-5 years have your dealer re-lube it.

Then why even think of messing with it?
Because if it isn't lubricated it will wear out, I like to keep my stuff top notch, and have heard of snap on ratchets coming dry before, like I said this is my first one so I have no predisposition as to what it suppose to feel like, not really a big deal I guess but I was just curious.
Fair enough. I wouldn't worry if everything is smooth and quiet. When I've gotten dry rats, it was VERY obvious.

I had a ratchet rebuilt last week. Dude put it together dry. Said snap on no longer recommends lube. I took it apart 5 minutes after he left and put a dab of grease in it.

Reminds me of this vid where the Snap On man doesn't ever put any lube in (even though halfway through he does say he is going to).

I've taken all my ratchets apart and inspected / cleaned / lubed them with either RLL or Superlube.

My wife's family owns Lucas oil so I get it free by the case and I use the assembly lude or turbo charger oil and both work great, good to see someone else using Lucas. I haven't tried the synthetic stabilizer before huh... I got a bunch I'll give it a go next time. I use Tool box buddy most of the time I need to lube up a rusty tool though and works great and keeps all my channellocks looking new and my sockets and wrenches. They make it in spray can or in a little squeeze bottle and it's pretty much like wd40 but better. Also use it for seized bolts and nuts can't recommend it enough. I never used Lucas Oil till I met my wife and now since it's free it's all I use. I can mail a bottle of whichever you want.
