Getting ready to order a mini split for my 28 x 50 x 12 building. R21 in the walls and R38 in the ceiling. It also has a 8 x 7 insulated garage door a 18 x 10 insulated garage door and a 36" insulated door. Planning on a 36K mini split MRCOOL DIY. However I am wondering if a dual zone 36K may be better for keeping the building somewhat consistent temperature.

Get the dual 36k and install both evap units on one side of the garage. If you find that isn't enuf, install another dual unit on the other side of garage.

What did you end up doing here? I'm considering the same for a similar building.

Looking for A/C or heat?

Forget about the ceiling fans if you want A/C. Let the hot air rise and stay up there.

I'd use at least two inside units. Three if you don't mind the extra $.

Use two evaps. on opposite walls. Place them about 12-15' from the end walls diagonally from each other. That way the two fans will create a convective loop in the space and it should H/C pretty evenly.
