I just got a nice lightly used baldor grinder at auction yesterday. Restoring the whole thing. I have it all apart and it will be put back together tonite. The motor is either 120 or 240 depending on how leads are wired. From the factory and currently i will have it at 120 volts. For 120 volts, leads 1 and 3, and 2 and 4 are tied together respectively. The black hot lead from each of the overhead light shields and the power cord from the outlet come down and after a switch, are wire nutted to one of the pairs of wires (either 1 & 3 or 2 & 4) . I THINK IT WAS 2 & 4. Can anyone confirm that on dual voltage motors, leads 2 & 4 are hot and 1 & 3 neutral?

I could hook up the cord directly to the motor leads and see if it spins in the appropriate direction and go from there but i figured i'd ask first. Thanks.

Interesting question, not sure I understand it correctly, but position of hot and neutral make no difference and the rotation will not change.

Correct.

Some motors bring the leads out so you can change the rotation, and many do not.
